Petra

CEDAR FROST PETRA
CH SILVER BLUFF VERSACE  X  SILVER BLUFF PRADA

Petra is now up above watching over us... we miss our baby girl! See below for Albon warning.

Petra was beauty and grace combined with character and personality! We dearly miss her! Petra was such an athlete and loved to spend time with us just hangin:)

Albon (sulfadimethoxine), a widely used antibiotic, can cause irreversible dry eye. It is sometimes used for diarrhea, skin infection and many other things including the following listed indications. “Albon is a low-dosage, rapidly absorbed, long-acting sulfonamide, effective for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections commonly encountered in dogs and cats. Side effects when using Albon may include KCS (dry eyes), fever, joint inflammation, diarrhea, kidney damage and allergic reaction characterized by facial swelling and hives.” I did not see a pamphlet that came with the antibiotic but the ophthalmologist informed me that it is right in the warnings in the pamphlet that comes with the product. I have used it on many of my dogs with no problem until recently. I will not use it again because of this risk no matter how small the risk is. I recently lost a young, beautiful, adoring crested due to this medication. It was used as indicated but she must have been extremely sensitive to it. Her tear production all but stopped and her eyes began ulcerating even though I was putting eye drops in every hour or two. I rushed her to the ophthalmologist where we tried a medication for 24 hours to start the tear production with no response. There is a surgery that can help some dogs with dry eye by moving salivary glands to the tear duct area. This option was not a good solution for my girl because of the extreme dryness of her eyes. Even with the surgery she would have to have eye drops applied every half hour, 24 hours a day to prevent ulceration of the eyes and extreme misery. I felt so helpless but had to let her go to heaven.
